RAATZ, Józef

Józef Raatz is a full professor at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdansk. He received his diploma from the State Higher School of Music in 1968, in the oboe class of Erwin Gassan. During his diploma year, he was employed by the then artistic director of the State Opera and Baltic Philharmonic in Gdańsk, Jerzy Katlewicz, as the orchestra’s first oboist. To this day, he is involved with the orchestras of the Gdańsk Opera and the Philharmonic. In 1970, he participated in the National Chamber Music Festival in Gdańsk, winning two awards – in the trio category and in the quintet category. Over several decades of artistic work, Raatz has performed hundreds of chamber concerts, playing in his own groups – the Gdańsk Reed Trio, Gdańsk Oboe Quartet, Gdańsk Brass Quintet and Gdańsk Brass Instrument Group (also known as the Gdańsk Brass Octet) – and in other chamber groups. For EUTERPE Publishing House, Raatz edits pieces for oboe and for brass chamber groups.
