In terms of form and stylistic devices Introduction and Allegro, composed in 2000, are highly reminiscent of the Pastorale e Danza in the previous year. Here, too, the composer reaches for minimalist solutions for both the melody and the harmonies, and he once again sets up two contrasting parts, with the motoric Allegro being preceded by gentle, melodious Introduction. Lasting a scant five minutes, this short piece makes no unreasonable technical demands of the performers. The composer himself emphasises that it was first and foremost young violinists that he had mind when writing the piece, though this has presented no obstacles to its being performed by virtuoso artists. It was first heard in public in Warsaw on 16th February 2001, with Andrzej Gębski on the violin and the composer himself on the piano.
